The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking care of the hardworking poll workers during this important Presidential Election.
The United States Presidential Election is entering its second day of counting the votes. The delayed results are attributed to the high amounts of registered voters who chose to vote by mail due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. All eyes are on Pennsylvania, who aren’t expected to declare a winner until Friday, as they count upwards to two million ballots. Poll workers are doing tireless work, and the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to reward them.
According to Paul Rigney of NBC News, various Steelers players bought dinner for the ballot counters at an Allegheny County voting center on Wednesday. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated followed up on said report, saying that these players worked with the team’s community relations department to arrange this kind gesture.
Steelers helping out with the election
The Steelers reached out to poll workers in the past to ensure they’re ready for Election Day. Last week, the organization partnered with Citrone 33 to donate 5,000 face masks to hand out at polling stations in Allegheny County.
These ballot counters have a busy couple of days ahead, since the state of Pennsylvania will be accepting mail-in ballots until Friday. As of 7:30 p.m. ET, 89-percent of the ballots have been counted, but the race between incumbent Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden is still too close to call. The state is a pivotal one, as 20 electoral votes are on the line. Those votes could either help Trump remain in the race, or clinch the presidency for Biden.
Tensions are high, as this is the most important election in recent history. There’s a ton of pressure on the Keystone State to count all the votes to determine where the race will go. It’s a great thing to see the Steelers step up and ensure poll workers receive a hearty meal as they count the ballots in the county.
