Is there a more surprising wide receiver this season than D.K. Metcalf?
One year after falling to the final pick of the second round, all 31 other NFL teams might have buyer’s remorse by passing on the Seattle Seahawks top target twice.
Thursday night was no different from Metcalf on his way to a stellar outing. Against the Arizona Cardinals, the 22-year-old tallied three catches for 46 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown on the opening drive. However, it could have been four if not for Russell Wilson channeling his inner shortstop.
During the third quarter, Metcalf could hit the end zone for the second time. Instead, Wilson rifled a bullet towards his face, leading to a drop and people questioning his hands. Following the 28-21 victory, Metcalf took to Twitter, asking his quarterback for an apology for nearly destroying his good looks .

Needless to say, Wilson commented on trying to strikeout the Cardinals early.
“I gave him the old Randy Johnson fastball on that one, good ol’ Seattle reference there,” Wilson said, according to NBC Sports Jonathan Warner. “He went right behind Patrick Peterson there and I tried to laser one into him there, but the ball hit him right on the nose I think. We had a good laugh about it in the locker room.”

Metcalf has been the go-to target in Wilson’s vertical attack for 2020. So far in nine games, the second-year wideout has tallied 48 catches for 862 yards and nine touchdowns. As of Friday morning, Metcalf ranks fifth in average yards per reception at 18.
Wilson’s MVP season has been orchestrated by having quality weapons in the passing game. Against the Cardinals, even his limited production was positive as he finished with 197 passing yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers for the first time in two weeks. Now, Seattle regains the lead of the NFC West with a 7-3 record.
The Seahawks schedule now plays in their favor with matchups against the Eagles, Giants, Jets, and Washington. Here’s hoping either Wilson can teach Metcalf to start catching changeups instead of fastballs to feel the division in the 12th Man’s favor.
