Bengals fans donating to Joe Burrow’s cause will warm your heart

Joe Burrow’s charity saw a spike in donations after his knee injury.

The football world came to a collective standstill when one of the brightest young stars in the game, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, suffered a gruesome leg injury that will sideline him for the rest of the 202o season.

In a show of support for the injured quarterback, fans from around the league choose to give money to Burrow’s charity, which provides supplemental and emergency food aid to Burrow’s hometown of Athens, Ohio.

Per Ian Rapoport, Burrow’s Hunger Relief Fund received around 1,300 separate donations in the immediate wake of his injury, totaling over $27,000 in money donated.

Joe Burrow might miss some time in 2021 after tearing his ACL

Before injury, Burrow, threw for 13 touchdowns against just five interceptions while piling up yards a yardage pace of 4,300 yards in 16 games. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL after Washington pass rushers Chase Young and Montez Sweat sandwiched Burrow’s leg between them, but an MRI found he tore his MCL while suffering some structural damage.

For a quarterback who prides himself on slippery pocket movement and playmaking out of the pocket, one has to wonder how much the injury will hamper him when he returns in 2021.

Burrow’s charitable spirit was previously on display in his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech, where he raised $450,000 for his local food bank from 13,000 donors after referencing the poverty and food insecurity in his hometown.

Burrow’s charitable acts will outweigh anything he ever does on the football field. If there is any justice in the world, Burrow will make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2021 season,  return to the player who impressed in the pros, and continue to raise money to combat the scourges of hunger and poverty in this country.
