The Green Bay Packers could use another wideout, and a bargain buy just became available.
Despite the recent emergence of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and the addition of Tavon Austin to the receiving corps, the Packers are still rather lacking at the position outside of Davante Adams. This all goes back to the NFL Draft, and the Packers decision to select their quarterback of the future in the first round rather than, say, trading up for a Justin Jefferson. In fact, Green Bay neglected the position for the majority of the offseason, as signing Devin Funchess proved relatively useless over time.
Brian Gutekunst also opted against trading for Texans wide receiver Will Fuller, which in retrospect was the right call given his suspension for a positive PED test. So, are the Packers stuck with the receiving corps at hand? Not so fast.
The Lions put Marvin Hall on waivers, and he’d be a great addition to the Packers corps
Hall isn’t a world-beater, but at times this season he’s been among the best targets for Matthew Stafford. Just a few weeks ago, Hall brought in 113 yards receiving against the Indianapolis Colts — a more than capable secondary.
The Lions cut Hall loose because of his age. At 27 years old, Hall doesn’t fit the Lions goal of seeing what they have in some of the younger receiving options on the roster. Detroit is already focused on 2021 and beyond given their decision to fire Matt Patricia. For all we know, Matthew Stafford may be on the clock as well.
With the right guidance and quarterback, Hall can be an asset. Why shouldn’t that be Rodgers and Green Bay?
