Carson Wentz’s confidence issues have been accelerated with Jalen Hurts success

Doug Pederson is yet to announce a Week 14 starter, but it’s clear Jalen Hurts deserves a shot to run the offense.

Before the Philadelphia Eagles took on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, NFL insider Jay Glazer dropped a shocking report, saying members inside the Philly building believed Carson Wentz’s confidence took a hit once the Eagles used a second-round pick on Jalen Hurts.

Things only got worse for Wentz against Green Bay, as he once again failed to get the offense into any kind of a rhythm. Doug Pederson then made the not-so-difficult choice to bench Wentz and let Hurts run the offense. If you thought Wentz’s confidence was in trouble before, there’s no question it’s down in the dumps right now after the Week 13 loss.

Carson Wentz’s confidence couldn’t be lower right now after losing to the Packers

Before Pederson ended up yanking him from the game, Wentz was a lowly 6-of-15 for 79 yards passing. Those are not the kinds of numbers that a signal-caller who is in the middle of a four-year, $128 million contract should be posting. With Wentz playing so bad, Hurts came in and provided a spark for the offense.

Hurt threw his first-career touchdown pass and brought the Eagles within 23-16 in the fourth quarter. A long Aaron Jones touchdown closed the scoring at 30-16, but Hurts most definitely had Eagles fans fired up to see what he could do with the ball in his hands.

That’s bad news for Wentz. The fan base appears to have lost all patience with him and surely celebrated when he went to the sidelines and stayed there. Pederson said he isn’t ready to announce who his Week 14 starter will be, but it’s going to be tough to give the ball back to Wentz right now.

He looks like a player with no confidence, while Hurts showed some swag against the Packers. As tough as it might be for Pederson, he’s got to give the pigskin to Hurts and delivers some rough news to Wentz.
