The reigning Super Bowl MVP has heavily scouting the Cleveland Browns ahead of their Divisional Round matchup.
This past Sunday, the Cleveland Browns won their first playoff game since 1994 after they pulled off the massive upset over the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. It surely caused long-suffering Browns fans to celebrate. But sure enough, it sunk in that Cleveland will now face the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.
As if the thought of playing the Chiefs didn’t make Browns fans nervous enough, tight end Travis Kelce dropped this tidbit.
While speaking with the media, Kelce mentioned that quarterback Patrick Mahomes was studying and taking notes on the possible teams the Chiefs could play in the second round. After the Browns won, Kelce said Mahomes already had a full notebook on them.
Mahomes is ready to face Cleveland
That’s right, the former NFL MVP and the reigning Super Bowl MVP spent the past week preparing for not just the Browns, but also the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. That should delight Chiefs fans and terrify those who root for the Browns.
The Browns defense will have their hands full on Sunday afternoon, as they face a Chiefs offense that averaged 415.8 total yards per game (best in NFL) and 29.6 points per game (sixth-highest in league).
However, Cleveland’s will get a boost this weekend, as top cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Kevin Johnson have been activated off the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list. Both cornerbacks missed the last two games against the Steelers due to being placed on the reserve. On top of that, head coach Kevin Stefanski will likely be available for the Divisional Round to participate in the first playoff game of his career.
In the regular-season, Cleveland’s defense allowed an average of 358.4 yards (17th in NFL) and 26.2 points (12th-most) per game.
The Browns will face the challenge of trying to stop a Chiefs team that’s determined to repeat as Super Bowl champions. Cleveland’s best chance is to have to out-duel them offensively with the likes of quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.
