Eagles rumored asking price for Carson Wentz is absurd

Based on their rumored asking price, the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to fleece potential trade partners for quarterback Carson Wentz.

NFL trade talk surrounding quarterbacks has gotten out of control. There’s no other explanation for the Eagles‘ rumored asking price for Carson Wentz.

The 28-year-old quarterback is unhappy in Philadelphia and is looking to get out. The Eagles don’t have much reason to hold onto him with a big contract and a downward trajectory since his excellent 2017 season.

Now they are supposedly asking for an absolute haul.

The Eagles want two firsts and a player for Carson Wentz

Wentz may be younger than Matthew Stafford, who just went to the Rams for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and Jared Goff, but he’s also not near his level as a proven NFL quarterback.

His most impressive season as a quarterback in Philadelphia was in an offense that Nick Foles guided to the Super Bowl. He’s dealt with injury problems since and was benched this past season after throwing 15 interceptions. He’s also been accused of being a bad teammate.

If the Bears want to throw two first-rounders at the Eagles for Wentz, that’s quite the gamble for an injury-prone quarterback with an inconsistent playing record and a bad reputation in the locker room.

Is Wentz an upgrade on Mitchell Trubisky? Probably. But they could find an upgrade on Tribusky with a single first-round draft pick if they evaluate right.

Wentz certainly doesn’t look like a franchise quarterback in Philadelphia right now. Why spend franchise-quarterback-type capital to get him?

If Wentz is worth two firsts, then maybe getting Deshaun Watson for two firsts, two seconds and two starters is a deal worth making.

Of course, if you’re the Eagles, you’ve got every right to ask for the moon. They seem just as happy to keep Wentz around to see how he does with the new coaching staff. If they could off-load him with that kind of return, they’d be the big winners.
