Cowboys perfect offseason addition could be stealing this Chiefs star in free agency

The Cowboys should look to steal away one prominent Chiefs defender in free agency this offseason.

The Dallas Cowboys have one top priority on the mind this offseason. That is quarterback Dak Prescott.

But Jerry Jones and the Dallas front office can’t forget about the rest of the roster. One position in particular that can use an upgrade is defensive back. Chidobe Awuzie will likely ask for significant money and the Cowboys can pass in favor of a short-term deal with a more experienced player.

A recent NFL.com article by Nick Shook looked at perfect fits for each NFL team in free agency. He connected Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Bashaud Breeland to the Cowboys and it does appear to be a great match.

Bashaud Breeland could be a great fit in Dallas

Breeland is a former fourth-round pick by Washington who made his Chiefs debut in 2019. One thing to note about him is he signed back-to-back one-year deals that were worth only a few million dollars each. He could show up to Dallas with the same structure as the team figures out a massive deal for Prescott.

The veteran defensive back appeared in 11 games for the Chiefs in 2020 and had two interceptions. He would join the Dallas defense and immediately bring a presence of a winner and someone who has played on the biggest stage the past two years.

Right now Anthony Brown and Trevon Diggs may be the starting corners in 2021. Adding Breeland on a cheap deal injects experience and talent into a defense that had a rough time in 2020. The Cowboys could add Breeland and even target a top defensive back in the NFL Draft. That allows them to control costs at the position and still have talent in the secondary.

Adding anyone from the Chiefs is usually a recipe for success.
