Cowboys: Dak Prescott reveals the best part of signing new contract

Dak Prescott reveals what was the best part of signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys fans can finally take a deep breath knowing Dak Prescott isn’t going anywhere.

Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a new four-year deal worth up to $164 million. The 27-year-old with be paid $75 million in the first season courtesy of a hefty $66 million signing bonus to remain with Dallas through 2024.

Money talks. It’s why free agents will leave a place they truly love to take a massive paycheck elsewhere. For Prescott, leaving the Cowboys wasn’t an option in his mind.

Instead, the sixth-year star is thankful to remain with the Cowboys and while the money is certainly nice, one of the best parts of his new deal was the reaction he received from his teammates.

Prescott has earned his massive deal with Dallas

For two years, Prescott bet on himself rather than take a cheaper deal. The 2019 season proved to be profitable as Dallas ranked No.1 in total offense on their way to the NFC East title.

Prescott played an essential role in the process, throwing for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Dallas elected to franchise tag him in 2020 before free agency hit.

The writing was on the wall for Jerry Jones going into the offseason. The team knew they needed Prescott and letting him walk wasn’t an option. The $40 million APY will be one that bites Dallas back after failing to sign him sooner, but it’s one that will keep them in contention for the division title in 2021

The biggest thing of all is Prescott’s leadership in the locker room. It’s evident that with his teammates celebrating a massive deal, his presence alone is worth the contract. Since being drafted in the fourth round out of Mississippi State, Prescott has been challenged each step of the way to become even better than the season before.

So far, he’s outshined his draft position. Now, he’ll be paid for it over the next four seasons.
