Vikings free agent Anthony Harris signs with Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles landed one of the top safeties in free agency in Anthony Harris, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings.

There is plenty of news coming out of the NFC East on Friday. The New York Giants are ‘optimistic‘ that they can sign free agent wide receiver Kenny Golladay, while the Dallas Cowboys are one of the finalists for the services of safety Keanu Neal. The Philadelphia Eagles have swooped in and have taken the attention away from their counterparts with a pretty huge signing.

According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Eagles are signing former Minnesota Vikings safety Anthony Harris. The deal is for one-year, worth $5 million, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Taking that contract into account, the cap-strapped Eagles got an absolute steal in Harris.

Back in 2019, Harris arrived onto the scene, where he recorded a league-high six interceptions, while also accumulating 60 total tackles and 11 defended passes. Luckily for him, he was set to become an unrestricted free agent that year and would have commanded a huge contract. Just before that happened, the Vikings opted to place the $11.4 million franchise tag on him.

This past season, Harris recorded 104 total tackles and seven defended passes. In coverage, Harris allowed 21 catches for 262 yards and four touchdowns on 36 targets, per Pro Football Reference. It was by no means a repeat performance of his 2019 campaign, but he is still among the best safeties in the NFL.

At the conclusion of the 2020 season, Eagles fans were not too fond of general manager Howie Roseman. While they ate a huge dead cap hit by trading quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and are set to move on from tight end Zach Ertz as a cap casualty, Eagles fans may forgive Roseman for managing to get the steal of the offseason in Anthony Harris.
