Texans sign Broncos Pro Bowler Phillip Lindsay

Former Broncos’ Pro Bowl running back Phillip Lindsay is set to join the Houston Texans now-crowded backfield in a bid to keep proving the doubters wrong.

Phillip Lindsay is making the move from Denver to Houston.

According to Ian Rapoport, the former Pro Bowl running back agreed to a deal with the Texans on Friday.

The deal is for one year and worth $3.25 million, Rapoport added.

The Texans have looked to boost their running back room this offseason. They successfully restricted David Johnson’s contract to save cap space and signed Mark Ingram to a one-year, $3 million deal.

With Lindsay, Johnson, and Ingram, Houston has three former Pro Bowlers on the roster. Unfortunately, none of them are coming off Pro Bowl-type seasons.

Johnson had 691 yards in 12 games while missing time with a concussion. With the Ravens, Ingram managed 299 yards in nine games as a starter, eventually being pushed out of the rotation and waived.

Lindsay was also limited in 2020. He missed three games with turf toe, then suffered a concussion and a knee injury. He finished with 502 yards in eight starts.

Phillip Lindsay has to prove the doubters wrong again

The 2020 season was difficult for Lindsay, but doubt him at your own cost. He went undrafted out of Colorado after a productive college career in part because of his 5-foot-8, 190-pound stature. He went onto earn Pro Bowl honors as a rookie with 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns in his debut season. He added 241 yards as a receiver.

In 2019, Lindsay held the starting role in Denver and had 1,011 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

In his time with the Broncos, he never fumbled and became a fan favorite.

The Broncos and Lindsay decided to part ways officially on Thursday, a couple of days after placing a restricted free agent tender on the player. They rescinded the offer, putting Lindsay on the open market as an unrestricted free agent.
