The New York Giants’ recruiting skills are officially elite, as they signed former Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to a multi-year contract.
This past week, the New York Giants showed the world that they are pretty good at this recruiting thing. Players courted free agent wide receiver Kenny Golladay prior to his visit with the team, which resulted in the team signing the former Detroit Lion to a four-year, $72 million contract. The Giants were not done there, as they managed to sign another top free agent days later.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Giants are signing former Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson. The Giants’ recruiting job was so well done, that Jackson canceled a planned visit with the rival Philadelphia Eagles on Monday!
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that the Giants are giving Jackson a three-year, $39 million contract. $26.5 million is fully guaranteed and the deal can be worth up to $44.5 million in guarantees.
Giants: Adoree’ Jackson bolsters New York’s secondary
After signing their new top pass-catcher in Golladay, a variety of Giants players set their focus on Jackson. Safety Jabrill Peppers, cornerback Darnay Holmes and newly-signed wideout John Ross took to social media to recruit Jackson. The Giants sent in their closer in defensive back Logan Ryan, who flew up from Florida to meet with his former Titans teammate over dinner. 24 hours later, and a deal was finalized.
Jackson was a highly-sought after cornerback prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft. He flashed strong defensive skills and was electric as a kick returner during his time playing for the USC Trojans. Jackson shined in his first three seasons with the Titans, but was limited to three games in 2020 due to a knee injury. This offseason, the Titans shockingly opted to release Jackson instead of bringing him in for the final year of his rookie contract. But, the decision was made so the Titans would gain over $10 million in cap space.
Overall, Jackson has recorded 200 total tackles (six for loss), 33 defended passes, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. In the past three seasons, Jackson has surrendered a total of 114 completions for 1,378 yards and 10 touchdowns on 185 targets, per Pro Football Reference.
The Giants received their top cornerback last offseason by signing James Bradberry. Entering the 2021 league year, New York had a glaring void at the No. 2 corner position. Now, they have a new young corner in Jackson to help further solidify their already stout defensive backfield of Bradberry, Peppers and Ryan.
General manager Dave Gettleman is the constant target of Giants fans’ ire, but he may very well have redeemed himself with the signings of Jackson and Golladay in the past week.
