Aaron Jones is coming back to Green Bay, and he has a message that will fire up Cheeseheads everywhere.
It looked like our last glimpse of Aaron Jones in a Packers uniform was going to be him standing injured on the sidelines as the NFC Championship Game slipped away. Jones was slated to his free agency this year and to say the Packers were cash-strapped would be the nicest way to put it.
But in an 11th hour plot twist, Jones returned to Green Bay and will remain there for the next four years. Shock quickly turned to excitement for Packers fans, which has now turned to raw determination to right the wrongs of last year.
It’s not just Packers fans who are looking to run things back and then take it a little further. In a video announcing his official return to Green Bay, Jones sent a message not only to the fans but to the rest of the NFC that he’s coming back with a purpose.
“I feel like this is a perfect fit for me,” Jones said, via the Packers official website. “I’ve been in this offense. I know what comes with it. I know my teammates here, and we feel like we have unfinished business.”
It’s easy to fall into hyperbole and theatricality in moments like this. Jones isn’t going to say that he’s coming back for the $48 million paycheck the Packers are giving him but he didn’t have to go as far as he did.
The message this sends is beyond simply being excited about returning to Green Bay. It’s a clear sign that Jones is highly motivated to bring a championship to Lambeau and help Aaron Rodgers fulfill his destiny of winning another title.
Such a thing is easier said than done, but it sounds like Jones is going to let his play do all of the talking.
