JuJu Smith-Schuster revealed that Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid tried going above and beyond to recruit him to the reigning AFC champions.
Come next season, star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will be back in Pittsburgh with the hopes of helping the Steelers get back to the Super Bowl. In his free agency, though, there were multiple teams who were trying to get him to leave Heinz Field.
This includes the Kansas City Chiefs, who put a one-year offer on the table for him. Per Smith-Schuster himself, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was really trying to do everything in his power to get him to head to town.

While appearing on the Michael Irvin podcast, Smith-Schuster said that Reid called him several times and would even send him pictures of the Lombardi Trophy. Well, that’s certainly one way to try and recruit a player.
Kansas City has solidified itself as the best team in the AFC, winning the conference title in back-to-back seasons and winning the Super Bowl back in 2019. With Patrick Mahomes running the offense and Reid on the sidelines, this team is built to compete for many more titles.
This is something Reid was trying to make clear to Smith-Schuster during his free agency. At the end of the day, though, Smith-Schuster passed up on the offers from Kansas City and Baltimore to run things back with veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Tomlin.
Fans of course are jacked up that he’s headed back to Pittsburgh. Meanwhile for the supporters in Kansas City, they can only think of what could have been if Smith-Schuster would have ended up joining the team’s already potent offense.
