Los Angeles Chargers, New York Giants, NFL Draft

Dude tweets fake Chargers draft trade and sends Twitter into panic

A fake trade between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New York Giants almost ended Twitter.

For a hot minute there, Twitter believed the Los Angeles Chargers were up to something with the New York Giants.

It looked as though the Chargers were moving up from No. 13 to No. 11 in a deal with the Giants three days before the start of the 2021 NFL Draft. New York would have received No. 13 and the No. 77 overall pick in the draft for the Bolts to move up two spots. Unfortunately, this was actually an elaborate hoax that nearly destroyed the holy sanctity that is the Twitterverse. What a tweet!

Did you buy into this fake trade between the Chargers and the Giants or are you lying about it?

Los Angeles Chargers almost pulled off a fake trade with the New York Giants

Let’s say if this trade were to have been legit. For the Chargers account to tweet this and then delete it, that would have had dire consequences in the PR department and the social media staff. But if the Bolts were to move up two spots, it could signify them wanting to add somebody like USC Trojans offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker to the team. He could come off the board then.

What is weird in this hypothetical trade is the Giants do not really gain anything besides a top-100 pick. If they were to stay put at No. 11, they could potentially end up with Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons if he falls out of the top 10 or 2020 Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith out of Alabama. Moving back to No. 13 means the Philadelphia Eagles take Smith.

Be very careful to not fall for a clever hoax such as this during the lead-up to the 2021 NFL Draft.
