Jets’ Quinnen Williams needs surgery, sidelined 8-10 weeks

Unfortunate news has arrived for the New York Jets, as Quinnen Williams is set to be out for at least two months due to injury.

It wouldn’t be a normal offseason for New York Jets fans unless there was some rough news for the team that comes in on one of their playmakers. Such is the case for defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, as he’s dealing with some adversity this spring.

According to NFL insiders Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo, Williams has suffered a broken bone in his foot and will be out for the next 8-10 weeks. This is simply brutal news for the 6-foot-3, 300-pounder.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Williams is getting ready for his third campaign with the Jets. However, he’ll need to bust his hump in rehab after he undergoes surgery to fix that broken bone in his foot. While this is a bummer, the expectation, per Garafolo and Pelissero, is that Williams will be ready to rock for training camp. He’ll miss OTAs, though.

Williams is coming off a strong campaign for the Jets in 2020. Last fall, he started 13 games and posted 55 total tackles. Williams added an impressive seven sacks and two forced fumbles. Come the 2021 season, he’ll work tirelessly to see those numbers grow, as head coach Robert Saleh will look to the standout defensive lineman to keep making big-time plays in the trenches.

Saleh is of course entering his first season in charge of the Jets, as he’s looking to bring his defensive knowledge to East Rutherford. Williams will no doubt play a huge role in trying to help the team turn things around and wipe away the awful memories from 2020’s awful 2-14 showing.
