Justin Jefferson laying groundwork for Kellen Mond to take over for Kirk Cousins

Justin Jefferson’s latest comments should have Minnesota Vikings fans from all over the country fired up over the future of Kellen Mond.

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is coming off an absolutely sensational rookie season for the NFC North team, earning Pro Bowl honors after blowing up for 1,400 yards. He was catching the ball from Kirk Cousins and made the veteran look like Aaron Rodgers at times.

With that said, Cousins simply isn’t the answer long term for Minnesota and fans are already intrigued about the potential of 2021 NFL Draft pick Kellen Mond. Well, allow Jefferson to get fans even more pumped up for Mond with his latest comments.

Justin Jefferson is clearly a big dan of signal-caller Kellen Mond

Late last month, the Vikings took Mond in the third round with the No. 66 overall pick. While he didn’t receive the kind of pre-draft hype of guys like Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Mac Jones and others, Mond is no doubt quite the talent and he’s got the arm to back that up.

This is something Jefferson is all too familiar with and the fact that they’re working out and getting to know each other this offseason is great to see. Jefferson knows what it takes to arrive to a new city and waste no time in making an impact.

Mond is expected to serve as Cousins’ backup in 2021, but his number could be called sooner than later. Imagine if he learns the system, studies under Cousins and then takes over the offense in a year or two. With him and Jefferson already getting to work on developing their chemistry, it could be bad news for defensive backs in the NFC North sooner than later.
