Chiefs reportedly impressed by these 3 rookies at mini camp

The Kansas City Chiefs like what they’ve seen out of several rookies at mini camp. It’s time to take notice.

The Chiefs are among the best teams at drafting and developing talent. It’s best not to question their scouting department or front office, in general, because you’ll likely be proven wrong in short order. Brett Veach doesn’t mess around.

So, when it’s reported that the Chiefs are especially high on a few of their rookies at mini camp, pay attention.

Kansas City likes what they’ve seen from Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith and Noah Gray.

Humphrey was the highest pick of the bunch, as the Chiefs took him in the second round. Smith was selected in the sixth round, while Gray was a fifth-round selection.

Kansas City Chiefs: Draft class already looking productive at mini camp

Per ESPN’s Louis Riddick, all three of these rookies have made an early impact.

“Been saying that #Chiefs could have their best OL they have had since Mahomes has been there in 2021…and that could be with two rookie starters (Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith),” Riddick wrote. “And watch out for rookie 5th rd TE Noah Gray from Duke. They like him. A lot.”

Watch out, indeed.

Hunphrey is likely to start at center come Week 1. While the Chiefs previously discussed moving Joe Thuney to that position, that went away when they drafted Humphrey in the second. Smith, meanwhile, will step in for the injured Chris Long, at least to start the year.

As for Gray, he might be able to sign on as the third tight end out of training camp. The Chiefs traditionally keep three tight ends, and they will be Travis Kelce, Blake Bell and potentially Gray, should he impress enough this summer.

Either way, the Chiefs draft class once again appears to be showing out early.
