NFL comes down hard on Washington Football Team culture with massive fine

In some breaking news on Thursday afternoon, the NFL has announced that the Washington Football Team has been fined $10 million for its team culture.

The NFL and Roger Goodell have dropped quite a punishment on the Washington Football Team. After a long, thorough investigation of the team’s culture, it was announced on Thursday that the team has been fined $10 million. All of that money will be donated to charity.

Back in July of 2020, the Washington Post dropped a groundbreaking report in which 15 women who worked for the team came forward and said they had either been sexually harassed and/or verbally abused. The NFL then investigated things, leading to Thursday’s decision.

Team owner Dan Snyder was mentioned in a second Washington Post article, as he was accused of asking a cheerleader to have her friend meet her inside his hotel room. Shortly after the massive fine was announced, Snyder released a statement.

“I have learned a lot in the past few months about how my club operated, and the kind of workplace that we had,” Snyder said in part of the release. “It is now clear that the culture was not what it should be, but I did not realize the extent of the problems., or my role in allowing that culture to develop and continue. I know that as the owner, I am ultimately responsible for the workplace. I have said that and I say it again.”

With their investigation, the NFL found the WFT had certainly created a hostile work environment in the past and didn’t meet the standards of a respected organization. It’s now on Snyder and the rest of the front office to prove to Goodell and the NFL that things surely are changing over in Washington.
