Chiefs re-sign Alex Okafor after missing out on Melvin Ingram

After missing out on Melvin Ingram in free agency, the Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with Alex Okafor.

The Kansas City Chiefs have wasted no time in finding a pass-rusher to make plays after missing out on target Melvin Ingram. Matter of fact, a familiar face will be returning to town next season: Alex Okafor.

On Tuesday afternoon, it was reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport that the Chiefs and Okafor have indeed agreed to a one-year deal. After spending the previous two campaigns with the reigning AFC champions, Okafor is ready for year No. 3 with the team.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Alex Okafor to a one-year deal

On Monday, the Chiefs saw Ingram sign on to a new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kansas City had interest in trying to land the former Charger, but the Steelers beat them to the punch. Now, Okafor will be looked at to get back to his ways with the organization of putting pressure on opposing signal-callers.

Last season for the Chiefs, Okafor appeared in 11 games for the team. He finished 2020 with 16 tackles and three sacks. The year before, the veteran defensive lineman posted 22 tackles and five sacks.

He’ll provide some solid depth for Kansas City’s defense, but there’s no denying that he doesn’t have the same kind of potential as Ingram. Regardless of that, Okafor will be ready to make plays for Andy Reid’s squad whenever his number is called.

Kansas City enters the new season as the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Should they make that happen, it’d be the second title in three years for Patrick Mahomes and Co. Now, Okafor will be all set to do everything possible to help the AFC West powerhouse make that happen.
