Mike Tomlin forcefully shoots down James Washington report

Mike Tomlin dispels the notion that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver James Washington has requested a trade off his football team.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has no time for Adam Schefter’s report that wide receiver James Washington has requested a trade during training camp.

Washington is in his fourth NFL season out of Oklahoma State. While the Steelers used a second-round pick on the 2017 Biletnikoff winner, Washington has not lived up to his lofty draft status in his first three years in the league. Though it would be understandable for a guy like Washington to want to be traded, Tomlin has vehemently denied the rumors of Washington requesting a trade.

Here is what Tomlin had to say about Schefter’s reporting of Washington wanting out of town.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin destroys the James Washington trade rumors

It would not be Steelers football without a little bit of drama, right? No matter how tumultuous things get in Pittsburgh, the Steelers almost always find a way to stay on course and be one of the better teams in football. While they have not been to a Super Bowl in over a decade, the Steelers have not had a losing season with Tomlin at the helm. He is a coaching institution in Pittsburgh.

Regardless of if Washington reportedly requested a trade or not, what type of value could the Steelers get in return for him, honestly? He may still be on a rookie contract, but he is at best the No. 3 wide receiver on the Steelers roster and has not lived up to lofty expectations in Pittsburgh uniform since going top-60 out of Oklahoma State. Washington has some value, but not a ton.

Either way, Tomlin has no time for “unnamed sources” when it comes to his veteran wideout.
