Dallas more than willing to let Michael Gallup walk after this season

With Michael Gallup entering the last year of his contract, it’s looking like Dallas is ready to let him leave town if he doesn’t have a big year.

Week 1 is almost here and the Dallas Cowboys, like always, will be one of the most-watched teams in the country. With Dak Prescott back to full health, this team will hope to make plenty of noise from the opening snap.

With Prescott back in the fold, this is of course amazing news for the offense. The receivers will look to make plays all over the field catching the pigskin from the stud signal-caller. This includes Michael Gallup, who is in the final year of his contract. If he wants to stay in Dallas, he’s going to have to ball out.

Michael Gallup could end up leaving the Dallas Cowboys next offseason

While Gallup has been explosive at times in his first three years with the Cowboys, he’s also battled inconsistency. After catching 66 balls for 1,107 yards in 2019, Gallup recorded 59 receptions last season for 843 yards. Prescott’s injury certainly had something to do with that.

Entering the new season, Dallas won’t be re-working something with the speedster and his contract, which means 2021 will truly be a prove-it campaign for Gallup. Dallas is loaded at wide receiver, with Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb headlining things.

Should Gallup go on to have a big year for the Cowboys, though, it will surely make things difficult for Jerry Jones. The last thing he’d want to see is Gallup to ink with another NFC team and go on to put up huge numbers for them as well.

If anything, 2021 could be an audition for Gallup. If he wants to keep playing for America’s Team, he’s going to have to show Jones what he’s made of throughout the season.
