Urban Meyer refuses to state the obvious about Trevor Lawrence

Urban Meyer refuses to name Trevor Lawrence the starting quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars over the incumbent Gardner Minshew.

While the Jacksonville Jaguars used the No. 1 overall pick on Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson, his head coach Urban Meyer will not name him the team’s starting quarterback over Gardner Minshew just yet.

When asked who will be the Jaguars’ Week 1 starter vs. the AFC South rival Houston Texans, Meyer refused to tip his hand. Though we all know it is going to end up being Lawrence anyway, it makes all the sense in the world why Meyer will not crown Lawrence just yet. He wants Minshew to give his all during the preseason to either elevate his trade value or force Lawrence to step up.

This is the latest example of iron sharpening iron between Sunshine and the Jockstrap King.

Urban Meyer will not name Trevor Lawrence the Jacksonville Jaguars starter

After a dreadful 1-15 campaign, there is a lot to be excited about with this year’s Jaguars team. If all goes well down in Duval, Jacksonville will push for a .500 record and maybe be in the mix to win the weakest division in the NFL. Somebody goes worst-to-first just about every season, and the Jaguars have so many great things working in their favor this year to potentially pull the thing off.

Ultimately, Jacksonville is not winning the AFC South if anybody other than Lawrence starts games for them. We know that Minshew can win games, but he is not consistent enough or has as high of a ceiling as what Lawrence has coming out of Clemson. While he may refuse to be No. 2, or go No. 2, we all know who will be the king of his porcelain throne by the time September gets here.

Besides, making the Texans plan for two starting quarterbacks Week 1 would be so hilarious.
