Chicago Bears legend Dick Butkus didn’t hold back when ripping into current head coach Matt Nagy and the team’s current offensive line.
Despite Justin Fields’ best efforts, perhaps the best showing of his young career to date, the Chicago Bears fell short against the Steelers on Monday Night Football in Week 9, dropping to an abysmal 3-6 heading into the bye week.
It’s been a war of attrition for the Bears in many aspects. Head coach Matt Nagy has incessantly been under fire for his game-planning, play-calling and much more. Meanwhile, the offensive line has consistently allowed pressure to get into Fields’ face and, uncomfortably often, deliver big hits on the future of the franchise.
Bears legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dick Butkus has been seeing all of it and, suffice it to say, he’s none too pleased with what’s happening in Chicago.

Speaking with Stacking the Box, Butkus unloaded on the Bears offensive line, Nagy and the front office for the organization.
Butkus’ best line was certainly that the offensive line should be arrested for attempted murder because they’re going to get Justin Fields killed.
However, the all-time great linebacker also said that the Bears ownership needs to do something drastic in regards to Nagy and, though he wasn’t mentioned by name, general manager Ryan Pace.
At this point, it’s hard to argue with any of what Butkus is saying. Whatever the franchise is doing right now just isn’t getting it done. And drastic changes to the coaching staff — and, obviously, the offensive line — might be necessary to move forward and actually allow Fields to thrive.
