Cowboys could be without key offensive weapon vs. WFT

The Dallas Cowboys are worried about running back Tonny Pollard possibly being unavailable against the Washington Football Team because of a foot injury.

There’s a bit of roster intrigue for the Cowboys as they gear up to play Washington this week.

On Wednesday, running back Tony Pollard missed practice with an apparent foot injury. At the same time, Dallas signed running back Ito Smith to their practice squad.

Immediately speculation emerged that Pollard’s status for the weekend isn’t 100 percent certain.

Tony Pollard injury update: RB missed practice with foot problem

The Cowboys’ official Twitter account tried to pour water on the whole thing by tweeting about having enough healthy running backs for practice.

Still, Pollard dealing with a foot injury isn’t a particularly welcome development as the Cowboys go for win No. 9. They haven’t won consecutive games since October and this road trip to Washington should give them a good shot at changing that.

On the plus side, Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News said the team isn’t worried about the running back’s long-term availability.

Pollard’s status will have to be monitored over the coming days, especially with Ezekiel Elliott nursing his own knee injury. Elliott was able to practice on Wednesday at least.

While Elliott leads the Cowboys with 765 yards on the ground, the partnership with Pollard in the backfield has been critical for Dallas.

Pollard has 602 yards rushing this season with an average of 5.6 yards per carry.  He had 71 yards and a touchdown on seven carries against the Saints last weekend. He has added 259 yards through the passing game as well.
