Why haven’t the Buccaneers released Antonio Brown yet?

Despite Antonio Brown embarrassing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the team still hasn’t officially released him yet.

People can’t stop talking about Antonio Brown. As has been the case over the years, it’s not for a good reason. The scenes of Brown ripping his jersey and pads off, while throwing up peace signs without a shirt on will never be forgotten.

He quit on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the middle of a game and Bruce Arians wasted no time saying the veteran receiver is no longer part of the team. Having said that, Brown still hasn’t officially been released by the Bucs. What’s the hold up?

Antonio Brown is expected to be cut by Tampa Bay in the coming days

According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, the Bucs have been in contact with the NFL about which release designation they need to use with Brown. At the end of the day, this is a procedural decision for the Tampa Bay front office, and they want to do what makes the most sense for the team.

So yes, technically Brown is still a Buccaneer, but that doesn’t mean that he’s going to suit up for the squad again this season. Arians is furious with Brown and made it well known that he’s not going to put up with his behavior again.

Brown had previously been suspended for using a fake COVID vaccine card, yet Arians decided to bring him back to try and help the team win another Super Bowl. Now, Brown has made his final mistake under Arians’ watch.

Per ESPN’s Josina Anderson, an unknown team would be interested in adding Brown if he does become a free agent. In order for a team to potentially ink him, Tampa Bay will need to finalize cutting him. That should be happening sooner than later.
