Sean McVay comments on future with Rams amid broadcasting rumors

Sean McVay removed all doubts over if he will leave the Los Angeles Rams to pursue a lucrative career in broadcasting.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay sent the following text message to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network a day before Super Bowl 56: “I’m committed to this team and coaching.”

Rumors were running wild in the latter part of the week leading up to the Super Bowl over if McVay will leave the Rams’ sidelines and enter an NFL broadcast booth. McVay got into coaching immediately after his playing career ended with the Miami RedHawks. While his former mentor Jon Gruden is a disgraced head football coach, he was dynamic on camera calling games for ESPN.

Here is what Rapoport reported regarding the status of the Rams’ 30-something head coach.

Sean McVay is not about to leave the Los Angeles Rams for a broadcasting booth

While there is no doubt about McVay potentially having a broadcasting career in his future, that may not come for another decade-plus. This is only his fifth season as the Rams head coach. Though he has led them back to the Super Bowl, he cannot ride off into the sunset without hoisting a Lombardi Trophy. There will be plenty of games for him to call once he reaches his 50s.

Of course, McVay could hang up the headset and be his generation’s version of John Madden sooner rather than later. Ultimately, he did relay to Rapoport that eventually his family will take precedent over football. For now, he is coaching an elite roster assembled by an outstanding general manager thanks to a fabulous owner who is committed to winning big in Los Angeles.

Even if McVay is not interested in coaching into his 50s or 60s, he is at the peak of his profession.
