What Kliff Kingsbury’s contract extension means for Kyler Murray

The Arizona Cardinals announced an extension for Kliff Kingsbury on Wednesday morning and that’s no doubt good news for Kyler Murray as well.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury isn’t going anywhere for a long time. On Wednesday, the Cardinals announced he and general manager Steve Keim had received extensions through the 2027 season. Now, all eyes will be on Kyler Murray.

Earlier this week, Murray and his agent released a statement making it clear the signal-caller wants an extension of his own. With his head coach and GM finalizing things, it’d be safe to assume some big news could be coming for Murray as well.

The Cardinals would be smart to get things done with Kyler Murray

There’s been plenty of drama surrounding Murray this offseason. When he wiped his Instagram of everything Cardinals related, everyone jumped the gun and assumed he was ready to demand a trade or something.

That’s not the case, with Murray wanting to continue balling out for Arizona for the long haul. He does have his mind on that extension, and the last thing Arizona wants is for there to be any kind of tension leading up to training camp. NFL fans have seen just how big of a distraction that can be for other teams. Just ask Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys about that, as the Dak Prescott extension felt like it took 10 years.

Murray is loved by the Arizona faithful and his ability to make plays with his strong right arm and impressive wheels is tough to match. The Cardinals obviously don’t want to see him suit up for another squad in the near future. In order to prevent that, they’ll need to lock down this new contract with him soon. With the Kingsbury and Keim news coming in, Cardinals fans should be hopeful that things will get done.
