Former Seattle Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen called out the Seattle Seahawks, saying the staff acted as if they had a JV roster on offense.
In recent years, Russell Wilson clearly was not happy with the Seattle Seahawks and the trade rumors finally came to a close with him being shipped to the Denver Broncos. Wilson wanted a fresh start elsewhere.
Why did he want to leave town? If you ask former Seahawks tight end Greg Olsen, it’s because the coaching staff acted as if they had a ‘JV roster’ on offense, focusing more on defense first and not letting Wilson do his thing under center.
Russell Wilson trade: Greg Olsen makes a strong point
Olsen, best known for his days with the Carolina Panthers, joined the Seahawks for the 2020 season. That year, Seattle suffered a disappointing loss to the LA Rams in the NFC Wild Card Round. Seattle had Super Bowl hopes, but they didn’t even come close to getting there.
Fans were quite frustrated with that result and it seemed like that was the beginning of the end for Wilson with the team. While the superstar signal-caller did return for the 2021 season, Seattle went 7-10 on the year and didn’t come close to making the playoffs.
For Olsen, he didn’t understand why the Seahawks would focus more on defense, rather than allow the Seattle playmakers to put on a show instead. Olsen said he’d be left scratching his head at times wondering why this was the case.
Plenty of Seattle supporters have felt the same way. People were hoping Wilson would stay in town and Pete Carroll would retire, so a more offensive-minded coach would take over. Instead, Seattle will now have a new starting quarterback and Wilson will be ready to ball out in Denver.
