Brandon Scherff gets huge deal from Jaguars to protect Trevor Lawrence

Brandon Scherff leaves the Washington Commanders to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Brandon Scherff had one simple plan in his NFL free agency: He’d do anything to get out of Washington.

After Andy Dufresne-ing his way out of Washington by way of a FedEx Field pipe, Brandon Scherff will never play for the Washington Commanders. He resurfaces in a fine place in North Florida known as Duval County. Scherff is the newest member of the Jacksonville Jaguars where he will play a huge part in keeping franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence upright. What a signing this is!

By signing Scherff and using the franchise tag on offensive tackle Cam Robinson, all signs point to the Jaguars using the No. 1 overall pick on Michigan’s star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson in the 2022 NFL Draft.

It does not really matter how long or for how much money it took for the Jaguars to pry Scherff out of Washington’s clutches. He has been slapped with the franchise tag repeatedly by Washington after being a top-10 pick out of Iowa by them years ago. The five-time Pro Bowler will now be able to spend the second half of his NFL career in a place of his choosing. Good for him.

This is an incredible move for Jacksonville. They are potentially getting a hall-of-fame-level interior offensive lineman playing with a chip on his shoulder. Not only that, but he will be playing unencumbered football for a team he actually wants to be a part of. Since he competed against Doug Pederson for years in the NFC East, the Jaguars know exactly what they are getting now.

Jacksonville is a long ways away from contending, but this move makes them better immediately.
