Dolphins deal wide receiver to Patriots after Tyreek Hill trade

The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots have agreed to a trade which sends DeVante Parker to Foxborough.

A rare inter-divisional trade that might work out for both sides? I doubt it.

Nonetheless, the Patriots and Dolphins teamed up to give Miami more draft capital, while sending DeVante Parker to a division rival.

New England needs wide receivers — that much has been obvious since before Mac Jones ever took the reins. Trading for Parker is a step in the right direction, but there is still more work to be done.

Parker’s best season was in 2019, when he caught 72 passes for 1,202 yards. In the two seasons since, he’s barely combined for that total.

Parker does have a nose for the end zone, and should add some much-needed size to the Patriots wide receiver room. Mac Jones will surely be thanking New England’s front office for a move that’s been a long-time coming.

Kendrick Bourne was the Patriots No. 1 wideout last season, and there’s a good chance Parker takes that spot unless New England selects a high-ranking wideout in the first round.

As for the Dolphins, receiving a third-round pick in this draft could be huge, as they shipped out a number of their selections to the Chiefs in exchange for Hill. With the speedster now the undisputed WR1 in South Beach, the need for Parker disappeared.
