Stefon Diggs’ massive new extension with the Bills is a win-win

Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills have agreed to a gargantuan four-year contract extension.

Stefon Diggs will be with the Buffalo Bills for a long time, as the Pro Bowl wide receiver has inked a four-year contract extension, keeping him in Western New York for the next six seasons.

Diggs is getting $104 million on this four-year extension with $70 million of that being fully guaranteed. He is now on the books for $124.1 million over the next six seasons with every intention of retiring with the Buffalo franchise. Diggs will not be hitting unrestricted free agency until 2028 ahead of his age-35 season out of Maryland. What a time to be an NFL wide receiver!

Now that Diggs has gotten paid, what does this mean for him, Buffalo and the rest of the league?

Stefon Diggs agrees to four-year extension to stay with the Buffalo Bills

ESPN’s Adam Schefter would add after breaking the news that some of the next wide receivers in line to be paid the big bucks include Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers, A.J. Brown of the Tennessee Titans, DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks and Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders. Factor in Metcalf being on the trading block and things could get very interesting.

For Diggs, it means he is not likely to play with his younger brother Trevon Diggs unless the standout Dallas Cowboys cornerback leaves the metroplex in his own free agency for Orchard Park. The younger Diggs brother has two more years left on his rookie contract out of Alabama. He is not only a candidate for the franchise tag for 2024, but could also garner a long-term extension.

As for what this means for Buffalo, the Bills brass is banking on Diggs being Josh Allen’s No. 1 receiving target throughout the rest of their Super Bowl window under Sean McDermott. Though the Bills will have to adjust to losing offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to the New York Giants, many people expect Ken Dorsey to be one of the hottest head-coaching candidates in short order.

With Diggs getting paid, other receivers will get their coin now that Buffalo is Super Bowl or bust.
