Josh Dobbs on playing for Steelers rival Cleveland Browns: ‘It’s weird’

Former Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs signed with the Cleveland Browns over the weekend. Even he admitted it’ll take some getting used to.

Dobbs was a backup in Pittsburgh for his entire tenure, and that’s the role he’ll play in Cleveland should he make the roster. Perhaps the Browns signed him for a little intel on the Steelers, but at this point they ought to be familiar enough with their division rival considering they play them twice a season.

With a possible Deshaun Watson suspension in the near future, and Baker Mayfield having one foot out the door, the Browns need all the quarterback help they can get. Dobbs won’t start — or at least that’s not the plan — but he provides important depth at a position of need.

Josh Dobbs excited to play for Cleveland browns

Dobbs admitted he couldn’t imagine playing against the Steelers, especially considering he spent the early part of his career there.

“Yeah it’s been a process for sure,” Dobbs said. “Free agency can definitely be that. Getting up to New England was a great visit as well as Baltimore. Those were two great visits. In talking with Cleveland, it’s a tremendous opportunity as well as a really, really fun room to be in and a really, really talented team. It’s a little weird of course, you play against them every year in the league being in Pittsburgh and now you’re a Cleveland Brown, of course but I’m excited about the opportunity.”

If Watson and Mayfield cannot play, then Jacoby Brissett will start in their place with Dobbs behind him.
