Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders

Davante Adams comments about Aaron Rodgers should enrage Packers fans

Davante Adams admitted the Packers offered him more money, and made some curious comments about Aaron Rodgers in his latest press conference.

Adams will make for a valuable addition to the Las Vegas receiving corps, and for good reason — he’s one of the best wideouts in the NFL. This season will be his first experience outside of Green Bay since college, where he’ll play with good friend and fellow Fresno State product Derek Carr.

On Thursday, he discussed his departure from Green Bay, as well as discussions he had with Rodgers about his decision to leave. Rodgers’ future did play a role in his choice not to sign long-term in Green Bay, as Jordan Love doesn’t inspire the same sort of confidence. That’s nothing against Love — not everyone can be a future Hall of Famer.

Packers: Davante Adams left money on the table

“I’ll say it, it was true, O.K.,” Adams said in the Raiders’ press conference. “But, like I said, there’s more that goes into it. Family is a big part of it for me, so geographically being here it makes it a lot easier for me to stay connected to my family year round. This isn’t Year 2. I’m not necessarily trying to ‘fight for a job’ or anything like that to where you gotta do what you gotta do to stay out there. I had the choice, and the choice was for me to come here and raise my family on the west coast and come out here and have some fun in the sun. It’s hard to explain.”

So not only did Adams leave more money on the table to not finish out Rodgers’ career — he also thinks Derek Carr of all players has the potential to be just as good.

This is where Adams will lose most NFL fans, and certainly Packers supporters. Leaving Green Bay for more flexibility long-term makes sense, to some extent. Rodgers could retire any time now. But comparing Carr to one of the greatest of all-time?

Not even Carr’s personal hype man would go that far.
