Free agent defensive lineman Ndakmukong Suh appeared on ESPN and gave an update on his future.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw players return and other leave for new teams in free agency. There is one player who spent the past three seasons in Tampa Bay who is still a free agent, and that is defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
On Monday, June 20, Suh made an appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live” show, and was asked about his future in Tampa Bay and the NFL. The veteran defensive lineman revealed that “it looks the Bucs are out of the picture.” But Suh revealed that he would still like to play in the league.
Ndamukong Suh reveals return to Buccaneers unlikely
As for why Suh feels that a return to Tampa Bay is unlikely is probably because the team signed former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks to a one-year contract this offseason. So, Suh’s spot in the starting lineup is likely filled.
Suh is 35-years-old and has played in the NFL since being selected with the second-overall pick by the Detroit Lions in 2010. After his stints with Detroit, the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams, Suh joined the Buccaneers.
With Tampa Bay, Suh won his first Super Bowl title in 2020 as part of the team’s vaunted defense. This past season, the Buccaneers made a return to the playoffs, where they were eliminated by the Rams in the Divisional Round despite an epic comeback attempt.
In his three years with the Buccaners, Suh recorded 112 total tackles (23 for loss), 14.5 sacks and five fumble recoveries. This past season, Suh posted 27 tackles, 13 quarterback hits and six sacks.
It will remain to be seen if Suh will remain a free agent, or if a team will give him a contract around the start of, or during, training camp. But Suh let it be known that he is interested in having the chance to continue his NFL career.
