Robert Tonyan’s appearance at Tight End U inspires hope for Packers passing game

The Green Bay Packers should be getting back a fully healthy Robert Tonyan in time for Week 1.

With Robert Tonyan doing some running drills while at Tight End U in Nashville this weekend, Green Bay Packers fans should be excited about his progress coming back from a major injury.

Tonyan had been a big part of the Packers’ receiving game in the two previous seasons. However, a torn ACL suffered mid-year prevented Tonyan from building off a strong 2020 breakthrough campaign. The good news is that he looks to be well on his way towards getting back on the field for Green Bay, as the Packers look to win the NFC North for the fourth year in a row. This is so huge!

Here is video of Tonyan putting in the work while attending Tight End U in Nashville this weekend.

With the Packers losing Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in NFL free agency this offseason, having a familiar face Aaron Rodgers can trust in the passing game is so important for Green Bay. Though they still are very much the team to beat in the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings may be a formidable challenger for them, regardless of what the two other rival divisional teams do.

Not to say Tonyan needs to assert himself and play at a Pro Bowl level, but if he can exceed 500 receiving yards like he did two years ago, it will go a long way towards the Packers’ passing game holding steady, despite key offseason departures. Ultimately, having Tonyan back in the fold to the start this season is nothing but a good thing for the Packers. Will this be enough to win the NFC?

On paper, Green Bay is about one of three or four teams we should feel really good about returning to the NFC playoffs, along with the Los Angeles Rams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and pick your fourth team. Frankly, anything short of a division title and a playoff win or two should be seen as a failure for this Packers team. Tonyan may be healthy, but Rodgers is not getting younger.

It may only be a video of Tonyan running, but it is something of value Packers fans can believe in.
