Rather than stick with Heinz Field, the Steelers signed away the naming rights to their stadium to an insurance company from Michigan.
Acrisure it is. While there is a vague Pittsburgh connection thanks to Steelers minority shareholder Thomas Tull, it’s not much. Acrisure bought Pittsburgh-based company Tulco (artificial intelligence) in 2020.
Still, it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like Heinz Field, and the brand isn’t as uniquely tied to the city.
While the dream is now over, Pittsburgh fans can dream of a day where their beloved Steelers play in a stadium they once again identify with.
Steelers stadium name options: UPMC Field
This one’s easy.
The local medical giant is associated with the University of Pittsburgh, whose football team Heinz Field also hosted. The Burgh is becoming a medical beacon right before our very eyes.
Instead, we get to hear Yinzers say Acrisure for the next decade.
Steelers stadium name options: Giant Eagle Field
On the random year the Eagles visit Pittsburgh, sure this would be a little weird. But Giant Eagle is a rather large business and THE biggest grocery store in Western Pennsylvania and beyond. They could’ve afforded the naming rights, and thus become an even more iconic brand. Instead, we get to look forward to insurance. Yay.
Steelers stadium name options: Dicks Field
All jokes aside (and there would be many, I assure you), Dicks is an international sporting brand and well-known across the country. Its headquarters, surprisingly enough, are in Coraopolis, PA, which is in Allegheny County.
This was always the most likely option, until it wasn’t. Evidently an insurance company can foot the bill, instead.
