TopGolf with Jets rookie Garrett Wilson requires protective equipment (Video)

New York Jets first-round pick Garrett Wilson should be a huge asset on the field but he won’t be joining teammates’ four-man scramble anytime soon.

Armed with two first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Jets executed their plan to perfection as they try to put second-year quarterback Zach Wilson in the best position to succeed. First, they gave him some defensive help by selecting Sauce Gardner. Then they took Ohio State star wide receiver Garrett Wilson with their next selection, who will obviously directly help Wilson.

While he may be a favorite target in the Jets offense when they’re on the field, though, Wilson probably won’t be invited to be on Wilson’s Saturday scramble team at the local country club anytime soon.

A video of Wilson at TopGolf surfaced on Saturday and it is a sight to behold.

Not only does it look like the man is completely lost with a golf club in his hand just from the stance alone, it gets even worse whenever he takes a swing. To quote Happy Gilmore, “Whoa! The club went farther than the ball!”

Jets: Garrett Wilson makes TopGolf an extreme sport with inexplicable swing, club throw

Let this be a lesson to everyone: If you see Garrett Wilson at TopGolf, you probably need a helmet there more than you would on the football field.

In all seriousness, Wilson wasn’t taken in the first round for his ability to get birdies or bomb it down the fairway. So this is all in good fun as there’s plenty of reasons to believe that he’s far more capable of doing the job the Jets are paying him to, namely form a rapport with Wilson and be a catalyst for the New York offense.

Even still, it’s hard to think that this video isn’t reaching the Jets locker room sooner rather than later and Wilson will most definitely catch some heckling from his new teammates.
