Jerry Jones fueled heated NSFW exchange with Robert Kraft in owners meeting

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has no problem being outspoken, and that seemingly includes getting heated with another owner, Robert Kraft of the Patriots.

The Cooper Rush magic ended for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football as the backup to Dak Prescott suffered his first NFL loss as a starter. So perhaps that’s why owner Jerry Jones was less than cordial when talking to a peer, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, in a reportedly heated exchange between the two.

On Tuesday, the 32 NFL owners were voting about opening up discussions about commissioner Roger Goodell’s contract and compensation, a vote that passed with a 31-1 vote. Jones was the lone dissenter and, after Kraft joined the majority and voiced his support of the idea, things got testy.

According to ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, there was an exchange that eventually led to Jones looking at Kraft and menacingly telling the Patriots owner, “Don’t f**k with me”.

The rest of the exchange was less heated as the billionaire owners did not break out in their rendition of Fight Club thereafter. Kraft reportedly asked what Jones said and the Cowboys owner cleaned up his language by replying, “Don’t mess with me”.

Objectively, this is hilarious for two 80-year-old men to sound like they are about to throw down over how much and how they will pay Goodell moving forward. At the same time, though, it continues a pattern for Jones who has long been advocating to not essentially allow Goodell an easy paycheck.

As things currently stand, the way the NFL Commissioner is paid is majoritively paid is not from a salary but, rather, from bonuses. Jones’ concern about renegotiating his contract is that the committee would use too vague of language that would essentially allow for loopholes or something of the sort for Goodell to make his money easily rather than a true performance-based incentive.

And based on his exchange with Kraft, Jerry Jones feels quite strongly about that.
