Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins

Should the Dolphins look to reunite Jerry Jeudy and Tua Tagovailoa at the trade deadline?

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is available via trade, so should the Miami Dolphins try to reunite him with his college quarterback?

The Denver Broncos have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season. So it’s no surprise they are open to making deals before the trade deadline. Jerry Jeudy is apparently getting a lot of interest from teams looking to add a wide receiver.

Jeudy has struggled to connect with Russell Wilson, and if not for a long touchdown in Week 1 his numbers in games Wilson has started this season would look even more dismal. With Brett Rypien starting in place of an injured Wilson against the New York Jets in Week 7, Jeudy set his season-high for targets (11) and catches (seven), with 96 yards–which would be his season-high there if not for that 67-yard score in Week 1.

Plenty of teams with a greater need at wide receiver are surely in the mix for Jeudy.

But what about the Miami Dolphins?

Should the Miami Dolphins try to reunite Jerry Jeudy with Tua Tagovailoa?

The Dolphins made a big offseason trade to acquire Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs. Paired with Jaylen Waddle, Miami has one of the more explosive wide receiver duos in the NFL.

But Jeudy of course has some history with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Over the 2018 and 2019 seasons at the University of Alabama, with Tagovailoa mostly as his quarterback, Jeudy totaled 145 receptions for 2,478 yards with 24 touchdowns.

The Dolphins went to the Alabama and familiarity well with Tagovailoa when they drafted Waddle in 2021, and it has worked very nicely. Jeudy seems like just the type of receiver that would fit well with the speedy Hill and Waddle, working out of the slot at a top-10 rate among wide receivers (according to Player Profiler), and it’s not as if he’s exactly slow himself.

A three-receiver set of Hill, Waddle and Jeudy would be virtually unrivaled in the league. Not having a 2023 first-round pick isn’t necessarily helpful in being able to make the Broncos a standout trade offer, but the Dolphins should absolutely try to reunite another Alabama wide receiver with Tagovailoa.
