Micah Parsons clarifies so-called criticism of Jalen Hurts to Eagles players

After the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Eagles on Sunday, Micah Parsons backtracked his Jalen Hurts comments to Philly players on the field.

Now, it’s not fair to suggest Micah Parsons took a full-blown shot at Jalen Hurts. If anything, it was indirect. However, it was enough to raise the eyebrows of Eagles fans everywhere, and boy, did they (and the media) run with it.

On Von Miller’s podcast, Parsons simply stated that Hurts’ teammates and coaching staff deserved more credit than they’re getting for his success. This was in response to a questions about Hurts’ MVP chances.

“I just love the game so much, and I understand it so much, that like when things are off I just can’t like hold it in. I almost gotta say something,” Parsons said at the time.

Cowboys: Micah Parsons takes back Jalen Hurts criticism

After Dallas narrow win on Sunday, Micah Parsons approached Jordan Mailata to discuss his comment on Jalen Hurts, assuring he meant no ill will.

Given this is Eagles-Cowboys, it was fair for the media to suggest that Parsons comment was an indirect shot, at best. While Parsons may have not meant to infer Hurts didn’t deserve MVP, in his argument he credited those around the Oklahoma product for his success, rather than the QB himself.

When talking to Mailata, Parsons didn’t necessarily walk back his comment about Hurts. If anything, he doubled down in a way that didn’t mention Hurts whatsoever, which is what he should have done in the first place.

There is nothing wrong with praising the Philadelphia Eagles. They have the best record in the NFC, and are arguably the Super Bowl frontrunners, for a reason.

Hurts is a polarizing figure. Parsons is correct in his conclusion that it takes a team to prop one man up for MVP consideration. However, that relationship is a two-way street with Hurts, who has single-handedly won the Eagles a handful of games this season on his own accord.
