Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons lost out on the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year award, but he’s just using that as extra motivation for next season.
Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons might not say he was snubbed, but the DPOY voting results suggest otherwise.
On Thursday’s NFL Honors ceremony, Parsons didn’t receive a single first-place vote for Defensive Player of the Year.
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa won by a landslide with 46 of 50 first-place votes. Philadelphia Eagles’ Haason Reddick received two first-place votes; Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones and New York Jets’ Quinnen Williams received one vote apiece.
There’s little doubt that Bosa deserved this year’s award for his dominant play in 2022, leading the league with 18.5 sacks and earning a first-team All-Pro nod.
Still, shouldn’t Parsons haven’t gotten at least one first-place vote?

Parsons ranked seventh in the league with 13.5 sacks and finished his season on a quiet note, registering just 1.5 sacks throughout his final six games.
The 23-year-old defender posted similar numbers to his rookie season, when he came in second in DPOY voting behind Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt. That year, Parsons put together an incredible Year 1 in the league with 13.0 sacks, 30 quarterback hits, and three passes defended, good enough for him to earn five first-place votes in last year’s DPOY voting.
Just because Parsons didn’t receive any first-place votes this year doesn’t necessarily mean he declined in performance, though.
Parsons made more of an impression flirting with R&B singer H.E.R. at the 2022 awards ceremony, but the young Cowboys star already has his sights set on next season.
“Y’all gonna see me next year,” Parsons posted on Twitter shortly after the ceremony.
Somewhere out there, a young and inexperienced 49ers quarterback is trembling in his shoes. Don’t poke the lion.
