There has been a rumor the Vikings could trade into the Top 5 of the 2023 NFL Draft but an insider has shot that down — but not without an enticing tease.
In what is already being billed as a chaotic draft, the embodiment of that for the 2023 NFL Draft is perhaps the Minnesota Vikings. Are they going to trade up? Are they going to take a quarterback? Does anyone have a single clue what the franchise is actually going to end up doing on Thursday night in Kansas City?
It’s been a wild time for Vikings fans to try and parse through all of the information out there, especially with some of the latest buzz around Minnesota. Namely, there have been some relatively unsourced rumblings that the franchise could be trying to trade into the Top 5 with either the Texans or Cardinals.
Vikings insider Darren Wolfson, however, had a hard-lined answer to a question about this particular rumor. When asked on Twitter, Wolfson said he hadn’t heard anything legitimate about Minnesota making that trade up, though he did note that Will Levis being favored to be the second quarterback drafted was an interesting development.

While Wolfson shot down the rumor of trading into the Top 5 again (or trading up at all) based on his gut feeling given what he knows, the insider did tease that the Vikings would be making a move at quarterback this week, again citing his gut feeling based on the information available.
Does that mean he believes that Hendon Hooker will be the pick at No. 23? Or could it be that Minnesota could see someone fall to them at that selection? Then there’s the possibility that they could be looking into a trade for someone like Trey Lance, Ryan Tannehill or a quarterback we haven’t heard about yet.
So while Wolfson did shoot down one bit of potential calamity for the Vikings in the 2023 draft, the door is still open for plenty more shenanigans — shenanigans that will likely mean the team landing the eventual replacement for Kirk Cousins.
