One team may have hinted at Will Levis’ floor in Round 2 of NFL Draft

Will Levis remains available after the first round of the NFL Draft. At this point, it feels as if he could go anywhere, but one team is sticking out as his lowest slip.

The first round of the NFL Draft came and went on Thursday night, and Will Levis did not hear his name called. Levis was a tricky one to gauge throughout the scouting process. Coming into the scouting combine, it felt safe to project him in the second round or beyond. As things developed, it looked like he could sneak into the first. Then, coming up on the draft it felt as if someone would gamble on him in the top 10 to make him the third quarterback off the board with Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud going No. 1 and 2, respectively.

Levis feels like a certainty to go on day two, but where will he go? That’s widely considered the biggest question going into the second round that kicks off tonight.

One team seems to be his final landing spot if all else fails.

The Saints seem to be the worst-case scenario for Will Levis

Here’s the order of the top of the second round, barring any trades that develop before the second day begins:

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers
  2. Houston Texans
  3. Arizona Cardinals
  4. Indianapolis Colts
  5. Los Angeles Rams
  6. Seattle Seahawks
  7. Las Vegas Raiders
  8. Carolina Panthers
  9. New Orleans Saints
  10. Tennessee Titans

We can nix the Steelers, Texans, Cardinals, Colts and Panthers for Levis, I think. Each of them has young quarterbacks and won’t be looking to develop a starter behind the scenes to take the reins in a few years. It just doesn’t make sense to take a stab at Levis for them.

So, the Levis order looks more like this:

  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Tennessee Titans

Based on what Saints coach Dennis Allen said about the team’s thinking at No. 29, expect Levis to not fall past the Saints if he’s there:

The Saints were thinking QB as a possibility at 29, which means they must really be thinking it in round two if there’s an option there they like.

New Orleans landed Derek Carr in free agency this offseason, which sets them up under center for the future. But Levis would be great to have as a backup to develop behind the scenes. Carr was a net-positive but he’s no spring chicken. There’s a chance his time in New Orleans is short-lived, which means the Saints should be thinking about other options for the future.

Look for Levis to go early Friday night.
