The defending NFC champion saw their share of departures over the last few months. Still, the Philadelphia Eagles have enjoyed quite the offseason.
The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs own the NFL’s longest current playoff appearance streak, having made the playoffs each of the past eight seasons. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles have been pretty consistent themselves and a lot of the credit must go to general manager Howie Roseman.
The Birds have been in the postseason in five of the past six years. It started in 2017 when the club won Super Bowl LII by dethroning the then-NFL champion New England Patriots under head coach Doug Pederson. This past season, the club fell short in Super Bowl LVII to the Chiefs, this time under Nick Sirianni.
The Eagles have managed some pretty steady success despite changes at head coach and at quarterback. Roseman always seems to find the right moves and he’s been the constant for the organization.
Everyone is loving the Philadelphia Eagles offseason
Via ESPN’s Mike Clay, it looks like Philadelphia has once again (at least on paper) been able to overcome numerous changes and put themselves in line for another big year.
The team said goodbye to key veterans such as running back Miles Sanders (Panthers), guard Isaac Seumalo (Steelers), defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (49ers), and defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Lions), to name just a few free-agent defections.
Sirianni’s coaching staff has also changed as Shane Steichen is now the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Gannon is leading the Arizona Cardinals. The new coordinators are Brian Johnson (offense) and Sean Desai (defense).
Sirianni’s club comes off a 14-3 season and looks to become the first team to win back-to-back NFC East titles since the Eagles turned the trick four straight years from 2001-04. Philadelphia is also looking to become just the fourth club to win a Super Bowl one year after losing on Super Sunday.
Roseman has once again assembled a talented roster. The team used a pair of first-round picks on former Georgia Bulldogs Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith. They traded for running back D’Andre Swift (Lions) and signed former Seahawks’ first-round pick Rashaad Penny. It’s a club that remains solid in the trenches. We’ll find out in a couple of months what it all means.
