Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs sent out a cryptic tweet on Sunday, as he continues to seek a long-term contract extension.
The Las Vegas Raiders have retooled their offense this offseason, with some mainstays on the team moving on elsewhere. Quarterback Derek Carr was released and signed with the New Orleans Saints, while tight end Darren Waller was traded by the Raiders to the New York Giants.
There is one other player whose future with the team is uncertain, and that’s running back Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs had the franchise tag placed on him this offseason and has yet to sign it. That’s because he is in search of a contract extension. Thus far, both Jacobs and the team have yet to agree on a deal.
On Sunday, Jacobs sent out a cryptic tweet that read, ” Sometimes it’s not about you. We gotta do it for the ones after us.”

Jacobs also had an exchange with a fan on Twitter describing his current situation.
When it comes to running backs, they aren’t exactly getting contracts like what Ezekiel Elliott received from the Dallas Cowboys (six years, $90 million). With the position being devalued, whether it’s by executives, media, or fans, lucrative, long-term contracts have become hard to come by for running backs.
Jamaal Williams, who led the league in rushing touchdowns this past season with 17, signed a three-year, $12 million contract with the Saints. Mile Sanders, who had a huge year for the Philadelphia Eagles during their run to Super Bowl 57, signed a four-year, $25 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.
Besides Jacobs, Saquon Barkley has also yet to sign his franchise tag with the New York Giants, as he seeks out a long-term contract. Both are currently set to make $10.1 million on the tag this season if they are to sign it.
This past season, Jacobs was the league’s leading rusher after picking up 1,653 rushing yards. Jacobs did so on 340 carries while scoring 12 touchdowns.
With training camp more than a month away, will the Raiders and Jacobs agree to terms on a new contract or sign the franchise tag? We’ll find out once players start reporting.
