With the Washington Commanders seemingly open to listening to trade offers for Chase Young, here’s what the Chicago Bears could offer to acquire him.
NFL training camp is over a month away, where teams evaluate their rosters and bring them down to 53 players for the start of the 2023 regular season. As is the case every year in training camp, it provides teams with the opportunity to decide whether they need to make a move for a player to fill a position of need. With that, they will have to call other teams around the league to see if a player is available.
The MMQB’s Albert Breer noted in a recent column that teams could give the Washington Commanders a call to see if Chase Young is available for trade. Breer says that while it’s unlikely the Commanders would trade him, he knows “they’d be open to listening.”
If that is truly the case, the Chicago Bears should most certainly give the team a call about Young. This is a team that had difficulty getting to the quarterback last year, as evidenced by safety Jaquan Brisker leading the team with four sacks. Adding the former Ohio State star and the former second-overall pick would help on paper.

If the Bears were to give the Commanders a call, you would imagine that they would be asking for one of their first-round picks. Let’s not forget that Chicago has two first-rounders in 2024 following their trade with the Carolina Panthers this offseason that netted the NFC South team the No. 1 overall pick. But given that Young is in a contract year, giving up a first-rounder is a bit too steep.
So, a second-round pick would be a good piece to get in return for Washington. But, what else could they do to sweeten the deal? How about a fourth-rounder this year? Chicago will have two in 2024, thanks in part to a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, who moved up one spot in the first round to select Georgia defensive tackle, Jalen Carter.
Chase had plenty of promise in his first season but has since been hampered by injuries in the past two years. That’s why the team opted against picking up his fifth-year option. In three seasons, Young had 75 combined tackles (50 solo, 25 assisted), 13 tackles for loss, nine sacks, seven passes defended, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 27 games played.
As of now, the Bears have DeMarcus Walker, Trevis Gipson, Rasheem Green, and Dominique Robinson as top options at the position heading into training camp.
Again, this is all dependent on whether the Commanders are serious about trading Young, which isn’t a given.
